Preparing for your immigrant visa interview? Bringing all required documents to the consulate will help ensure your application is processed as smoothly as possible.
All applicants are required to bring their original birth certificate to their interview. For applicants born in the Dominican Republic, that means you must bring the original Inextensa version.
If you are or have ever been married or divorced, you must bring the original marriage certificate, divorce decree, or death certificate for each and every marriage and divorce.
Depending on your immigrant visa class, you may also need to bring original documents for the petitioner. For example, if you are the parent, brother, or sister of a U.S. citizen who is petitioning for you, you must bring the original birth certificate for your petitioner. If you are the spouse of a U.S. citizen or LPR and the petitioner was previously married, you must bring the divorce decree of every prior marriage of the petitioner.
For more information on the documents required per visa class, you can visit the Department of State website at travel.state.gov.
Failing to bring the required original documents may cause unnecessary delays in processing your visa.
So, remember your documents. And, remember that your application is always your responsibility.
